Darshan timings
On weekdays, darshan is from 4:30 to 5:20 AM, 7:15 AM to 1:15 PM, and 4:15 to 8:20 PM. On weekends and public holidays the temple stays open from 7:15 AM to 8:20 PM without the afternoon break. Festivals such as Janmashtami draw very large crowds, with special arrangements.
What to expect
You climb a series of steps and halls up the hill to the main shrine of Sri Radha Krishna, with chanting along the way. There are shrines, a cultural exhibition and shops selling books and sweets near the exit. A free lunch prasadam is served daily from about 11:30 AM to 2 PM.
Dress and rules
Dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, and avoid shorts. Footwear is left at the counters, and photography is not allowed inside the temple. Small charges apply for parking and footwear storage.
Best time to visit
Weekday mornings after 7:15 AM are the calmest. Evenings are atmospheric, with the temple lit up and kirtan in the halls, but busier. Weekends and festival days bring long queues, so allow extra time and keep valuables to a minimum.
Getting there from Madiwala
By cab it is 14 to 17 km, 50 to 75 minutes depending on traffic. By metro, take the Yellow Line to RV Road and the Green Line north to Mahalakshmi station, about 700 m from the temple. The metro is often quicker at peak hours.
Combine it with
Orion Mall and Malleswaram are close by. Bangalore Palace is about 6 to 7 km away, so the two make a good full day. See our Bangalore Palace guide.
